Background: CEMASTEA is an International Educational institution that works with other organizations and institutions. At inception the Partnerships and Linkages (P&L) function was coordinated directly in the Director’s office. In 2012, the P&L function was transferred to the Training and Academic Affairs Department as External Linkages and Collaborations. The rapid growth in scope and coverage of P&L activities necessitated separation and creation of the P&L department in October 2014.

Vision: Excellence in building collaborations for teacher professional development in Africa

Mission: To create, use, and sustain partnerships and linkages that support transformation of teaching competencies for effective delivery of curriculum and improved quality of education in Africa

Core Functions: the department’s responsibility is managing the centre’s partnerships and linkages function.  This includes but not limited to:

  • Establishing collaboration, linkages and networking with relevant local, regional and international organizations and partners;
  • Coordinating the execution of on-going partnership activities;
  • Coordinating the activities of SMASE-Africa Secretariat;
  • Coordinating the activities of ADEA’s Inter-Country Quality Node on Mathematics and Science Education (ICQN-MSE) Secretariat;
  • Co-coordinating the African Union Commission (AUC) Continental Education Strategy in Africa (CESA, 16-25) Cluster on Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education;
  • Coordinating staff participation in international capacity development programmes, Conferences, Workshops, Symposia, and Seminars;
  • Advising on matters pertaining to partnerships and linkages.

1. African Union Commission (AUC)

Memorandum of Understanding on CEMASTEA-continental teacher development programmes since 2014.

AUC Youth Volunteer Programme (YVP): Youth Volunteer staff seconded to support regional activities at the centre since 2017

Participation in Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Education, Science and Technology Ministers of Education Forum

2. Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA)

Host and coordinating institution for the Inter-Country Quality Node on Mathematics and Science Education (ICQN-MSE) Secretariat on behalf of the Ministry of Education - Kenya

Host institution for the Inter-Country Quality Node on Peace Education (ICQN-PE) Secretariat

3. SMASE-Africa Association

Host and coordinating institution of the Regional Secretariat

Organizing and coordinating the Conference on Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (COMSTEDA: Formerly, SMASE WECSA Regional conference) annual activity held in Africa countries.

COMSTEDA 14 and 15 was held in Kenya and Zambia (2016 & 2017) respectively. COMSTEDA 16 to be held in Botswana in 2018

4. International Taskforce on Teachers for Education 2030

Participating in International Policy Dialogue Forum; annual meetings held in African countries since 2014

5. MASHAV-Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation on Education for Sustainable Development

Professional Development Training Courses for staff organized annually by A. Ofri International Training centre in Jerusalem, Israel.

6. UNESCO – Paris and UNESCO - International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA)

Teacher professional development training for educators from Anglophone and Francophone under the TeachHer regional programme for Africa since 2016

7. Mwalimu-Plus Kenya

Strengthening Primary Mathematics Education through teacher professional development in utilizing Ignite the learning technological teaching and learning tools developed by Mwalimuplus

8. Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authority (AFTRA)

Associate Member of AFTRA since 2016. Participation in the annual regional conference and round table meetings held in African countries

9. South East Asia Ministers of Education Organization – Regional Centre for Science and Mathematics (SEAMEO – RECSAM)

Technical support to primary and secondary international training programmes

10. World Bank

Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQIP) Programme

STEM education mentorship programmes / STEM Model Secondary Schools in Kenya
