Mr. Patrick Aluma Kogolla

Ag. Director STEM Training

Mr. Patrick Aluma Kogolla is the Ag. Director STEM Training at CEMASTEA. He has a vast experience in the education sector spanning over 36 years. Starting off as a Chemistry/ Mathematics teacher in Kisumu Girls High School in 1990, he rose through the ranks to become the Head of Science Department in 1996. Thereafter, Mr. Kogolla was promoted to be the Deputy Principal of Sagam Secondary School in Siaya in the 2000. He only served in this post from January to April 2000.

In May 2000 he joined the Strengthening Mathematics and Science in Secondary Education (SMASSE) Project’s In-Service Training Unit at the Kenya Science Teachers College as a National Trainer in Chemistry Education in May 2000. In the year 2001, Mr. Kogolla was appointed the Academic Head of the Chemistry Education Department in the INSET Unit. He eventually became the Administrative Head of the Department in 2002 and spearheaded the establishment of Chemistry Education Department at CEMASTEA. In 2007, he also spearheaded the establishment of the CEMASTEA SMASE Primary Programme and was given the additional responsibility as the first Primary Programme Coordinator alongside the Chemistry Department.

In 2010, he became the first Coordinator of Academic Programmes of CEMASTEA and was added the docket of External Linkages and Collaborations in 2012 becoming its first coordinator. Under this docket he also served as the first Focal Point Person for the SMASSE-Western, Eastern, Central and Southern Africa Association Secretariat at CEMASTEA.

In 2013, Mr. Kogolla was appointed by Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, the Minister for Education, as the first Coordinator of the Working Group on Mathematics and Science Education (WGMSE) of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA). In 2014 the WGMSE was transformed into the Inter-Country Quality Node on Mathematics and Science Education (ICQN-MSE) and Mr. Kogolla served as its first Coordinator. In the same year, he spearheaded the establishment of the CEMASTEA Partnerships and Linkages Programme and became the first coordinator. In this capacity, Mr. Kogolla also served as the Focal Point for the Pan-Africa Conference on Teacher Education (PACTED).

In 2016, the Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiangi appointed Mr. Kogolla as the National Coordinator of the Primary Education Development (PRIEDE) Project at the Ministry of Education Headquarters. He served for one year strengthening the project implementation and resumed his duties at CEMASTEA in 2017. On his return, he was appointed as the first Coordinator of Special Programmes to spearhead the establishment of the STEM Model Schools Programme and to coordinate the management of the SMASE Capitation Grants.

In 2018 Mr. Kogolla was appointed the Management Representative to spearhead ISO Quality Management System (QMS) at the Centre and was again re-appointed the Coordinator Training Programmes in 2019. In 2020 he was appointed the Ag. Deputy Director Training. After CEMASTEA became a State Corporation in 2022, he was elevated to be Ag. Director STEM Training in July 2024. Besides the roles played locally in Kenya, Mr. Kogolla also served as a Third Country Expert in Nigeria and was instrumental in the establishment of the SMASE Nigeria INSET system

Mr. Kogolla hold s Masters Degree in Teacher Education from the Aga Khan University, Dar es Salaam and a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership in ICT from the Dublin City University. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Science) from Kenyatta University; Certificate in Chemistry Education from Hiroshima University, Japan; Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme and Trainers of Trainers Certificate from the Kenya School of Government. He is an ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and holds a Management Representative Training Certificate from the same organisation.
